Denis Svechkarev, Ph.D., research
scientist, Institute for Chemistry
at Kharkov V. N. Karazin National University.
My
passion to astronomy started in 1994, when SL9 crashed into Jupiter. Currently,
popularization of astronomy remains one of my main interests. I taught astronomy at the high school level and wrote a popular book for
beginning amateurs. Since 2002 I have led the Ukrainian Astronomical Forum which became one of the most attended amateur events in our
country. My activities in sidewalk astronomy started
in 2001 with translation of JD's Plans for Building a Sidewalk Telescope into Russian. Years after, I still believe that this is the simplest, shortest,
and thus - the most effective way to bring the passion of astronomy to public.
Other interests in astronomy: visual observing,
deep-sky photography, comets, eclipses. Other hobbies: photography,
tourism.
